How To Control High Blood Pressure

By taking a few simple steps that follow, you can find relief from high blood pressure.

1. Hypertensive people typically have insulin resistance. That is, the insulin receptors in their body don't work efficiently. That means you have to avoid high carbohydrate diet and totally eliminate sweets and reduce the intake of grains. This helps to bring down high insulin levels.
2. Give up smoking, or at least reduce the number of cigarettes smoked per day.
3. Monitor and reduce caffeine intake. This applies to coffee and caffeinated soft drinks.
4. Keep your body weight to optimum levels as suggested by your doctor. You may take up aerobic exercises or do outdoor activities like swimming, hiking, etc.
5. Learn to cope up with stressful events. A positive attitude helps.
6. Get sunshine. This helps the body produce vitamin D. Vitamin D receptors is found in almost every type of cell in your body. Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to insulin resistance and high blood pressure. When the levels of vitamin D dip, the body increases parathyroid hormone production, which in turn increases blood pressure. Exposure to sunlight helps in another way too; it releases endorphins, feel-good chemicals in the brain that can relieve stress and prevent hypertension.
